So, tonight was the night. Me and H had it all planned; we'd go out, drink copiously, and then be as sleazy as we could, because we figured, this would be a good way to meet girls. Sadly, this plan failed to account for the fact that H and I are both a) gentlemen by nature and b) utter cowards. We each "almost met" one girl. I left the address of this diary on a scrap of paper for a very fetching barmaid working in a very dead pub, but I think the chances she'll actually read it are pretty small. And H talked to a girl who was sitting on the kerb, looking as though she was crying. He asked if she was alright; she said she was.

There has to be a better way to do things. The sad truth is that I am never going to be comfortable in that world, of cool people and confidence and lighthearted possibility; my place is somewhere else, somewhere, I suppose, where those same people would feel just as out of place as I felt in their world.

I also went to the dentist today; they recommended that I brush my gums more thoroughly when brushing my teeth, but otherwise gave me a clean bill of health. Hoorah!
